Global Oil & Gas

ServiceNow Re-Implementation of Core Platform and ITSM for a Global Oil & Gas Company

The Challenge

The company was already using the ServiceNow platform, but due to the level of customisation, they were unable to identify automation and improvement opportunities

The Solution

An out of the box solution to use the platform in a more strategic way,

The Outcome

During the 12-week period, we ensured a repeatable delivery model was in place, and that the migration for 100,000 global users was efficient, and staff were able to confidently use the model to onboard new members to the platform.

The Organisation

Our Client was a global group of energy and petrochemical companies that have played a vital role in powering transport systems and homes in the UK for more than 120 years. Whilst continuing to supply gas and oil that society needs, our client was also working to provide a mix of lower carbon products for future energy transitions.

The Challenge

The company was already using the ServiceNow platform, but due to the level of customisation, they were unable to take advantage of all the new ServiceNow features and functionality. The platform could be upgraded, but this didn’t provide access to any of the new releases.

Our client waas already big advocates of using the platform in an out of the box way, taking advantage of all of the features and value it could offer their business. However, the customisation they had in place was preventing them from identifying automation and improvement opportunities, even though the platform was only two years old.

The Solution

After deciding they wanted to go back to an out the box solution and use the platform in a more strategic way, the company selected an experienced partner called Plat4mation to complete the re-platforming.

They also brought in whyaye mob member, Anna Bisset, to support them and to ensure the first six months of the programme was successful in the delivery of the MVP.  Anna led the programme day to day and supported them to ensure it was a repeatable delivery model, as it was being rolled out in waves. She also collaborated and facilitated workshops, ensuring the partner and client worked towards staying out of the box (OOTB), so maximum benefits could be delivered.

The Outcomes

Anna received excellent feedback from the customers key sponsor for keeping up the pace and really driving the re-platforming forward to meet the deadline of the first MVP. During the 12-week period, Anna also ensured a repeatable delivery model was in place, and that the migration for 100,000 global users was efficient, and staff were able to confidently use the model to onboard new members to the platform.

We had a great partner with Plat4mation and clearly saw the value they brought, as well as their strong values and behaviors. Our client was also a great customer to work with, using our expertise and experience to drive change forward and take on board techniques on mob testing. Working together as a team, this re-platforming project was a recipe for success. Once completed, the whole cutover piece was repeatable, and the mob testing and programme planning was repeated by the project manager who took over the work.

Anna Bisset, aka the Machine, has shared her thoughts on the project.

In September I departed from an amazing client after spending the last 9 months helping them deliver the first two releases of their ServiceNow re-platform delivery. It was my first experience of a ServiceNow re-platform, as I had always worked on green field ServiceNow deliveries. This was a great learning experience and I was fortunate enough to work with a fantastic partner, Plat4mation, who has extensive experience in ServiceNow re-platforms. They led the way in advising our client on how best to get back to a clean, un-customised platform. The partnership with Plat4mation was a success from start to finish, as they are a company with very similar values to Whyaye — working at a fast, agile pace, and with a focus on creating wins for the customer.

Despite this phase of the project coming to an end, together we were able to ensure we positioned the client for maximum value realisation by establishing “repeatable” ways of working (i.e., staying out of the box), introducing Mob (shorter, focused) testing, cutover planning (rigorous, detailed planning to ensure a low-risk implementation), and helping them establish their own efficient ways of working (daily stand-ups, scrum of scrums etc.). I truly feel I have left a high-performing and capable team who will carry this project forward to achieve its maximum potential. It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of their journey thus far. Plat4mation, who remains involved in the delivery of this effort, was an absolute pleasure to partner with. – Anna Bisset
